As clinicians, we understand the anxieties of the Covid-19 pandemic in dental practicing terms. The upheaval of our carefully refined systems and currently shifting goalposts is introducing risk where we previously had slick processes. Record keeping at the level at which we would like to be is always a challenge. Dental Audio Notes (DAN) provides no-touch reassurance that your record keeping is accurate, complete and contemporaneous, even with changing requirements and heaps of PPE. DAN is a safety net for the depth, accuracy and timeliness of your records.
Whilst practitioners and dental teams are concentrating on staying safe and reassuring our patients, we can know that DAN is there should our written records miss that important sentence or the nuances of that 10 minute telephone discussion before the patient came in.
This means that as you struggle with making high quality records through keyboard covers, in hot PPE, through reflections in your visor, with fingers that aren’t hitting the keys right because of your gloves, while you worry about being able to see enough patients to keep the business afloat, and as you think about how you next need to change your processes to align line with constantly changing advice, you can know that your records are even better than they used to be.
And when we do get used to our new normal, and we have a case which comes back to this uncertain time, we know we can look back in the proper context, with all of the information at our fingertips. We can reflect on whether we served the patient well in view of the challenges of current circumstances and make decisions as to how to move forward with full understanding of what really happened, not just what we had time and energy to write down at the time.
Our dental teams feel that DAN is like a reassuring safety net to help them during this huge change. Our patients understand that things are different. Change is here to stay. Let’s make it for the better, (for our records at least).
